Infant Massage

Infant Massage is available for colicky infants, sleep disturbance and gas discomfort. It is a healthy approach to enhancing circulation, digestion and the growth of muscles and bones. Infant massage also promotes positive touch, communication and loving family relationships. A Registered Massage Therapist can teach you safe and effective techniques for massaging your infant and/or child. Studies conclude that pre-term (premature) infants receiving massage gain more weight and leave the hospital sooner. Massage therapy may also improve sleep patterns and behaviour in infants.
Infant Massage Instruction Session
The aim of an infant instruction session is to educate families and caregivers about the importance of nurturing and loving touch in their baby’s life. The goal is to provide a tool that increases bonding and relaxation between you and your baby in a supportive, comfortable environment.
Infant massage is the gentle manipulation of your baby’s soft tissues with or without oil. Gentle Swedish massage strokes and passive movements are applied by you with awareness and loving tenderness. The pressure used when massaging infants is gentle but firm.
Infant massage instruction sessions are specially tailored to suit the needs of moms, dads, expectant parents, grandparents, siblings, extended family and other caregivers. You will learn key components of infant massage during the session, which will allow you to perform infant massage at home. Some of the items that will be covered will include: how to read your baby’s body language more effectively, different positions in which you can massage your baby and suggestions on appropriate times to massage your baby.
