Mellisa Wheaton, R AC
Melissa Wheaton is a registered Acupuncturist with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturists of B.C. She is currently working towards becoming a Dr. of TCM. She completed a Holistic Nutrition Counseling program in 2000 and is registered with the International Organization of Nutritional Consultants.
Throughout her life she has been involved in many activities, where she gained a true awareness of the relationship between a healthy body and a healthy life. Melissa moved to the Sea to Sky in 1997, where she fell in love with a lifestyle driven by outdoor activities. She appreciates the vital importance of living close to nature to optimize physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Melissa's treatments are approached with compassion. She integrates acupuncture, massage, cupping, and modern nutrition to improve the body's function to bring balance and promote self-healing. With the insertion of fine needles at various points on the body, the energy can be moved or redirected to where it is needed most. In this way, the body's balance can be restored and the illness resolved. In the Western view, acupuncture may work by stimulating the central nervous system (the brain and the spinal cord) to release chemicals called neurotransmitters and hormones. The chemicals dull pain, boost the immune system, and regulate body functions. When the internal organs are functioning optimally, the body can assimilate and absorb nutrients efficiently to increase energy and free the body from pain and stress. Working with each person in a partnership, Melissa creates a treatment plan that is tailored to each individual. She has taken an interest in pain management, digestive disorders, and women's health, but is not limited to these areas.
When she is not helping you to reach your health goals you can find her climbing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, hiking with her dogs or out digging in her vegetable garden.
